Aug 27, 2:40 PM According to FOX Sports, Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman has decided to ignore his doctors' advice and play in 2008.

Merriman emphatically told to have surgery
Aug 27, 10:49 AM The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that all four doctors consulted agree he should have surgery on his knee immediately.
Fantasy Spin: They all told him he could play, but that he would be severely limited and would threaten his career. Expect Merriman to listen and not play in 2008. Jyles Tucker would take over as the starter in his place. View original story

Douglas traded to Baltimore
Aug 27, 10:45 AM Only four month after signing him, the Buccaneers have traded defensive end Marques Douglas to the Ravens for a late-round pick in 2009 and a conditional draft pick in 2010.
Fantasy Spin: Douglas replaces Dwan Edwards, who was lost for the season. Douglas actually had two earlier stints with Baltimore, but never really played. He should see some action as a situational run defender after tallying 12 stuffsin San Francisco last season.

Manning expects to be ready for Week 1
Aug 27, 7:09 AM Peyton Manning says he'll be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. The Colts quarterback was removed from the PUP list and returned to practice on Tuesday for the first time since undergoing surgery on July 14 to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee. "This is a significant step for me to be out there on the practice field," Manning told the Indianapolis Star. "If things go as we hope they do and expect they do, then I definitely see myself practicing full time next week and playing against the Bears." Head coach Tony Dungy says he doesn't want to push Manning too hard, but acknowledges that he has been expecting him to be ready for Week 1 all along.
Fantasy Spin: Some of us never lost faith that Peyton would be fine, even in the face of all those wild rumors last week about a second surgery and uncontrollable swelling in his knee. Those fantasy owners who nabbed Manning on the cheap because of the unconfirmed speculation are to be congratulated. View original story

Fantasy Spin: Berrian is back in practice, but the Vikings will not use any starters in their final exhibition game. His fantasy value is suffering because of the uncertainty regarding his status. View original story

White and Johnson to split touches
Aug 27, 5:26 AM The Nashville Tennessean reports that Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher has decided that running backs LenDale White and rookie Chris Johnson will split touches almost 50-50 this season (60-40 at least).
Fantasy Spin: This is either good news or bad news, depending on how you look at it. White should continue to get the majority of carries, and this should help him remain healthier throughtout the season. However, he is losing touches, which is never a good thing. Johnson owners have to be pretty pleased with themselves, as this validates Johnson as a prominent fixture in the offense. View original story

Aug 26, 10:12 PM Per the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the Green Bay Packers intend to reduce the number of carries running back Ryan Grant receives this season.
Fantasy Spin: Be still the beating hearts of fantasy owners everywhere! Brandon Jackson will steal more carries, but Grant is expected to see more work in the passing game. It should all balance out, so owners should not get too anxious. View original story
